Felipe Urriola

I am a Doctor with substantial experience in Emergency Medicine. I was born and raised in Santiago, Chile, where I obtained my Primary Medical Degree. After two years of junior posts in Emergency & Acute Medicine at different metropolitan teaching Hospitals, I joined the Chilean Air Force (FACh) as Medical Officer. I trained with the Nº9 Helicopter Group and deployed to the UN peace mission in Haiti, flying 10 HEMS missions and working with FACh special forces.

In 2017, I moved to the beautiful Valparaiso Region and trained for three years in a busy, cult emergency department serving a densely populated urban area. My passion for the resuscitation & critical care elements of EM became evident during this placement. In 2018 I completed a Pg Diploma in Emergency Medicine at Universidad Catolica de Chile, which was pivotal in gathering a deeper understanding of the speciality.

In 2020, I relocated to the remote Aysen Region, where I worked in a rural ED and with the Regional Retrieval Service, flying 38 successful rescue missions. When not inside a plane, road-tripping, swimming in the lakes or walking on a mountain, I spent my free time learning ultrasound. This exercise led to the creation of this website and the implementation of the first Emergency Ultrasound course in the Region.

I’m a nomad and explorer. Among other adventures, I’ve lived in Santiago, Haiti, Vienna, Valparaiso, Patagonia, Edinburgh & London. I’ve cycled the Amalfi coast from Napoli to Castellabate and crossed the Bealach-na-Bà during a wind storm.

Currently, after obtaining GMC registration in the UK, I work full-time for the NHS in Emergency Medicine & Critical Care.
